Yogurt makes the tandoori chicken extremely soft, tender, and juicy. If you are bored with your regular chicken sandwiches then try this recipe. The aroma and flavors of these tandoori grilled chicken sandwiches are amazing.

Ingredients to make Tandoori chicken sandwich
- Bread - You can use either brown bread, multigrain bread, or white bread. Or make these sandwiches with whatever bread you love.
- Chicken - You can use either boneless chicken breast or boneless chicken thighs. I have used boneless chicken breast for this recipe.
- Tandoori chicken masala - You can make your own or use store-bought. You can easily purchase this masala online.
- Flavoring - salt, red chili powder (or paprika), coriander powder, turmeric powder, and ginger-garlic paste.
- Kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves) - It is optional. It gives a very nice flavor to the chicken but if you do not have it, skip it.
- Yogurt - Use thick yogurt for this recipe. Layer a muslin cloth on a strainer and then pour yogurt on it. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. Let the excess moisture drain off from it.
- Oil - Traditionally to make tandoori chicken, mustard oil is used. But you can use any regular cooking oil. I have used sunflower oil to make these sandwiches.

- Prepare the mayonnaise spread by combining mayonnaise with tomato sauce. Remove and set it aside.
Assemble the Tandoori Chicken Sandwich
- To assemble the sandwich, spread the prepared mayo spread on one slice of the bread.

Cooking tips
- Use thick yogurt for marinating the chicken. If the yogurt is thin or watery, the marinade will come off while you grill the chicken.
- After cooking the chicken, give it a resting time of 10 minutes before chopping it.
- I have used two red chili powders in this recipe. Kashmiri red chili powder will give a bright red color to the chicken and spicy red chili powder will spice it up. If you do not prefer spicy then skip adding spicy red chili powder to it.
- You can grill it on a Tawa (iron griddle) or a grill pan.
- The addition of green chutney is optional. I like to add green chutney to my sandwiches. It gives a spicy Indian touch to the sandwich. Skip if you do not have it.
What are the best side dishes that complement this chicken sandwich?
- You can serve a chicken sandwich with some French fries or Chips.
- Serve it with salads like Greek Yogurt Coleslaw or Corn Salad with Feta Cheese.
- Soups like Manchow Soup, Minestrone Soup, Pumpkin Soup, or Thai Chicken Soup.
- Serve it with your favorite dips like garlic mayo, green chutney, or tomato sauce.
Variations that you can try
- You can add a layer of grated mozzarella cheese or cheddar cheese over tandoori chicken while making the sandwich.
- Skip tandoori chicken masala and try making it with different seasonings like Cajun seasoning, fajita seasoning, or Italian seasoning.
- Instead of bread use buns. Slightly toast the bun and then add mayo spread, lettuce leaves, cooked chicken, onion slice, tomato slice, and cover it with another bun.
