Ingredients & Substitutions
- Chicken - You can use either boneless chicken breast or chicken thighs. If you are using chicken breast then pound it for even thickness or slice it horizontally. It helps to cook the chicken evenly.
- Bread - You can use either white bread or brown bread.
- Mayonnaise - You can use either veg-mayonnaise, egg mayonnaise, or any flavored mayonnaise for making this club sandwich. I have used veg mayonnaise for this recipe.
- Fresh garlic - You can substitute it with garlic powder. Or skip it.
- Fresh cilantro (coriander leaves) - I like the flavor of fresh cilantro. Skip if you do not like it. Or you can substitute it with parsley.
- Paprika - Skip if you do not have it. Or substitute it with red chili powder or red pepper flakes. Add it as per your taste.
- Cheese slices - I have used processed cheese slices here for the recipe. You can substitute it with Cheddar cheese, Pepper jack, or Colby jack cheese.
- Tomato slices - You can also add cucumber slices or onion slices.
- Fresh Lettuce leaves - I used Green leaf lettuce. You can substitute it with Romaine lettuce leaves.
- Butter - Use butter to toast the sandwich. It gives a nice flavor to the sandwich and prevents the sandwich from becoming soggy.
- Flavoring - Salt, red pepper flakes, and crushed black pepper. If you do not like spicy then skip the addition of red pepper flakes.

- Insert the skewer or cocktail sticks to hold the layers together. It keeps the sandwich from falling apart.

Tips to make the Best Chicken Sandwich
- Toast the bread just before assembling the sandwich. It will make sure that your sandwich stays crispy, crunchy, and warm. Club sandwich tastes best when served warm.
- Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes to an hour in the refrigerator. You can marinate it for up to 2 hours. This makes the chicken soft and juicy.
- While grilling the chicken, make sure the chicken gets some char marks while getting cooked. It will give a nice smoky flavor to the chicken.
- Once the chicken is cooked. Cover and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing it. It helps the chicken juices to redistribute themselves back to the meat. As a result, you get moist chicken pieces.
- Mayonnaise has salt in it. Be careful while adding salt to the recipe.
- For meal prep - Cook the chicken in advance. Let it cool down completely. Transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Stays good for 2 days. Reheat and use it.
What to serve with chicken club sandwich?
- Serve the chicken club sandwich with French Fries or Potato chips.
- You can also serve it with Coleslaw.
Storage suggestion
- Once the chicken sandwich is assembled, serve immediately. Do not store the leftovers. The sandwich will become soggy after some time.
- For meal prep- You can store the cooked chicken. Let it come to room temperature. Transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Stays good for 2 days. Make sure to store it within 2 hours of cooking.
- To increase the shelf-life you can freeze the cooked chicken. This stays good for a month. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Once you thaw the chicken, do not refreeze it. Check for any signs of spoilage before you consume it. If there is any foul smell or black spots, discard them immediately.
- Reheat in a microwave, oven, or stovetop, and enjoy!
Variations that you can try
- Try any other chicken marinade - I used a simple chicken marinade for this recipe. You can try greek yogurt chicken marinade. Marinate the chicken with Italian seasoning, fajita seasoning, or Mexican seasoning for a different flavor.
- Use BBQ sauce - Instead of making a simple Mayo spread combine Mayonnaise with bbq sauce, honey, dijon mustard, lime juice, and paprika.
- Use Buns - Instead of using bread slices arrange them inside a bun. You can use any buns of your choice.
- You can add some onion or cucumber slices.
- You can replace chicken with Turkey.
- Add some crispy fried bacon and ham to the sandwich.
- If you like pickled vegetables then add pickles to the sandwich.
