Pineapple jam recipe with step by step photos and a video recipe. Pineapple jam is easy to make at home. This is a 3-ingredient pineapple jam recipe - pineapple, sugar and lemon juice. No preservatives are added to the jam.

Compared to store-bought pineapple jam, I like my homemade pineapple jam. The jam is made in a clean and hygienic environment without the use of preservatives or added chemicals. It tastes sweet and is slightly tangy. Spread delicious homemade jam on the bread and enjoy breakfast.

The jam sets well and it has a perfect spreading consistency. Depends on the availability of fruit I make fruit jam in small batches and store it in the refrigerator. Stays good for 2-3 months.

I have already shared the Mango Jam recipe. The way to prepare pineapple jam is the same. In this post, I am sharing a homemade pineapple jam recipe.

How to select pineapple to make the jam?

    • It should have a light golden color at the stem and light green at the top. It means pineapple started to ripe.
    • Try smelling the pineapple from the stem side. It gives a slightly sweet fruity aroma.
    • Press it from the sides. It should be firm or slightly soft. If it is too soft means the pineapple is overripe. Do not use overripe pineapple to make the Jam.
    • Pineapple should be heavy. Heavy pineapple means that it is more juicer/has more pulp inside.
    • Avoid pineapples with leaves that look dull or brown. They are overripe pineapples.

Why ripe pineapples are not a good option for making Jams?

If the pineapple is a little sweet and sour, then the sourness of the pineapple can be balanced with the addition of sugar while preparing the Jam.

Also, jam made with sour fruits sets well because of the acid and sugar combination.

Ripe pineapples are sweet and you can eat them fresh. You cannot add too much sugar to it as it will spoil the real taste of the fruit.

How much sugar do I use to make a Jam?

The quantity of fruit juice (blended fruit pulp) and sugar should be 2:1. For 2 cups of fruit juice, you should add 1 cup of sugar. But if the fruit is sour to taste then increase the quantity of sugar but never decrease it.

We are not using any chemicals or preservatives and sugar is going to act as a natural preservative.

    Why does a Jam harden?

If the jam is over boiled or cooked for a longer time than required then it will become hard when cooled.

Why the jam is runny after cooled?

If the jam is undercooked, then it will be runny after cooled.

How do you know if your jam has set?

Take a ceramic plate and keep it in the freezer for 5 minutes. Once the jam starts to become thick then lower the flame and put a few drops of the prepared jam over the ceramic plate.

Tilt the plate to see whether the jam is runny. If the drop is not running down easily then the jam is set. You can see the process in the video below.

How to sterilize the jam bottle?

Boil the jars in water for 10 minutes. Take it out and keep it in an upside-down position on a clean towel. Once the water dried up from the jar, wipe it with a clean and dry towel.

There should not be any moisture in the jar before you put jam in the jars. This helps to kill the microorganisms that can spoil the Jam.

    4. Do follow the tip (2:1 ratio) for adding sugar given in the post.
    5. If pineapple is sweet then you can increase the quantity of lemon juice to 2 tbsp.
