    About this breadcrumbs recipe

    1. Breadcrumbs can be made in either oven or on the stovetop. There is no difference in the breadcrumbs made in both ways.
    2. You can store the bread crumbs in an airtight container for 15 days at room temperature. If you want to store it longer keep it in the freezer.
    3. However, I would like to make breadcrumbs in small batches and use it within a few days.
    4. You can use bread crumbs for making veg nuggets, potato nuggets, cutlets, patties, or veg lollipops.

    Equipment

    • Heavy bottom pan

    Ingredients

    • 6-7 bread slices
    • or use brown bread slices

    Instructions

    • Cut and remove the sides(brown part) of the bread.
    • Now cut the bread in 4 parts. Similarly, prepare all the bread pieces.
    • Grind it in a mixer/food processor. Grind it a bit coarse but if the recipe calls for adding fine breadcrumbs then grind it fine.

For making bread crumbs in the microwave:

    • Preheat the oven at 180 degree Celsius.
    • Bake at 180 degree Celsius for about 10 minutes.
    • Take out the baking pan, you will see that the top of the breadcrumbs has changed its color but the breadcrumbs at the bottom are still soft. Stir it well.
    • Again bake it for 5-7 minutes till the breadcrumbs are completely dry and grainy. Be careful the timings may vary.
    • Take the baking pan out and let it cool down completely. Store it in an airtight container and keep it in the freezer.

For making the breadcrumbs on stove top:

    • Heat a pan and add the powdered bread crumbs.
    • Keep the flame on medium and dry roast it.
    • Once you feel the breadcrumbs at the base of the pan started to become crisp, then lower the flame.
    • Now continue to roast it till it becomes completely dry and grainy in texture.
    • Switch off the flame. Let the breadcrumbs cool down completely.
    • Store it in an airtight container and keep it in the freezer.

    Cooking Tips

    1. Whenever there is any leftover bread, I put it in zip-lock bags and keep it in the refrigerator. It dries up after a day or two and is good to make breadcrumbs. Always use dried bread to make breadcrumbs.
    2. I have used regular white bread for making the breadcrumbs but you can use brown bread (whole wheat bread) or multigrain bread too for making it healthy.
    3. Store the breadcrumbs in the freezer for a longer shelf life. You can store it for about 2 months in the freezer.
    4. However, it is told to discard the sides (brown par) of the bread. It gives a nice white color to the breadcrumbs. But usually, I use the brown part too while making the breadcrumbs.
    5. If you need fine breadcrumbs after making the breadcrumbs put them back into the mixer/grinder and grind them to a fine powder.
