This quick and easy microwave chocolate mug cake is ready in less than 2 minutes, perfect for a single serving, and made without eggs. Packed with chocolate flavor and boasting a molten lava center, this no-fail recipe is my go-to for those late-night dessert cravings. Here’s how to make a mug cake with step-by-step photos and a video.
4tablespoonpowdered sugarreduce if you prefer less sweet
salt (a pinch)
2tablespoonvegetable oil (should not have any strong smell)
¼cupmilk
dark chocolate compound (as required to create the molten center.) You can use milk chocolate too.
1teaspoonvanilla essence
½teaspoonInstant coffee powder
Instructions
In a microwave-safe mug, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, baking powder, coffee powder, and salt. Whisk gently with a fork.
Next, whisk in milk, oil & vanilla essence until smooth. Avoid overmixing the mug cake batter; it will make the mug cake tough.
To create molten lava in the center, place a small cube of a dark chocolate compound in the middle. Do not stir it. If you do not have dark chocolate compound add chocolate chips works fine.
Microwave on high (700 w) for 80 seconds. Every microwave is different; the timings may vary with your mug cake. Or Bake it in preheated-oven at convection mode at 180 degree celsius for 15 minutes.
The microwave chocolate mug cake is ready. Let the cake cool for a minute in the mug before digging in. Enjoy!

Notes
Always use a microwave-safe mug to make this cake.
Place a microwave-safe plate under the mug to help keep the microwave clean.
Use a fork to mix all the ingredients.
To avoid lumps, stir until the batter is smooth and consistent. Be gentle, over mixing can lead to a tough cake.
Ensure the mug is large enough to accommodate this chocolate cake in mug without spilling in the microwave. The mug should hold 1.5 cups of water. Mug cake will rise while cooking.
While mixing milk, add milk little by little & mix. Make sure there are no lumps formed in the batter.
Adding coffee powder is optional but coffee & chocolate are a beautiful combination.
Every microwave is different; the timings may vary with your mug cake.
For the vegan version, try using almonds, soy, or coconut milk.
Keep an eye on the mug cake after 1 minute. If it is over baked then it will turn out hard.
